Yes I haven't made much lately, this I know. However I find myself addicted to seeing what is going on in the world around me. I can spend hours browsing personal blogs of crafters, websites dedicated to making things and also finding the perfect handmade gifts on ETSY. I think one of my biggest things has been listening to different crafty podcasts on the way to work and on the way home, ones that introduce me to different people out there who are enjoying a life of living creatively. When I first started Coloredsprinkles it was interviews of different people who owned their own indie craft businesses. I enjoyed coming up with interview questions and putting it all together to put out there into the world to share with others who might read my blog. Well I am going back to my roots and I am starting up a blog dedicated to just that. I look forward to getting back into this and getting to know numerous inspiring people out there and then being able to share it with you.

The new blog will be dedicated to all things handmade; ideas, inspiration, eye candy, any and everything indie.

Etsy holiday loving.

You really have to love ETSY for shopping for holiday gifts. They really have unique stuff. I know that I put a few things on my wish list for my boyfriend to get me;)

Well I did get this tote:



Its from my boyfriend!!! Isn't it just so cute?? She has a lot of totes to choose from, even a typewriter one for all my Type loving friends:) Go check her out, her totes are priced really well and would make a great gift for sure.




I am in love with this necklace. Isn't it just so different, and the colors are so intriguing and eye catching!! That is not the only one I love in their shop, there are quite a few I wouldn't mind owning. Their are also bracelets and broaches to choose from to. Go look!

I was able to find some more cute kiddie gifts on ETSY, a few finger puppets for my boyfriend's youngest nephew. I really love these, and I am sure they will be appreciated both by the child and the parents. The attention to detail is great, I don't think I would have the patience to stitch these little guys, so for the price, they are worth it. They also have some ornaments, and stuffed cupcakes, and numerous other plush goodies.

This really is the kind of stuff you wouldn't find in a store, that's the beauty of part handmade items. They have really cute gifts for kids and adults alike.


Tonight we are gonna watch Tropic Thunder(we need a little comedy in our lives today) and I might attempt to make little houses, almost like the one in this very artsy ladies post. I bought this snow stuff tonight while out at the supermarket, I am thinking that maybe I shall put some on the roofs of the house and make ornaments out of them?! I'm in the mood to play with glitter, its just so festive.

Oh, before I go, I want to mention this really great magazine I picked up last week. I had been eyeing it for a week and then finally treated myself because it was $14.99( a tad bit for me to be spending on a magazine) But its all about where women create(hence the name) it gives insights into their worlds where they make things, like their studios. I love to read and see the whole creative process that people go through. Its very inspiring, you should treat yourself if your like me and have an interest for that.

So I am looking around on the Internet, putting together a little list for Will to choose gifts from for me for Christmas(little things) And I came across the most adorable digital camera I have ever seen. I know their are plenty of you guys out there like me who own a vintage box camera, so I am sure you will go ga-ga over this just like I did.

Urban Outfitters had such great gifts to give. I think half of my list has Urban Outfitters on it, that and Fred Flare.

Another cute thing I saw(and asked for) is this computer vacuum cleaner. I don't know about you, but there are days when I will be eating breakfast or lunch or even dinner while on my laptop and crumbs will get in the key. Also dust, lets not forget that. Check out this for all your keyboard cleaning needs!

As for my holiday shopping, I can cross of two kiddies from my list.
One of them is getting some really cute felt food, they love to play in the kitchen and whats better then some pancakes, strawberries and pasta?????


I purchased these from the lovely BeckyM Etsy shop. Such a great gift idea for that little chef!


Then for another young one on my list, I purchased a really sweet sewing kit that includes two elephants to be sewn. A mother and its baby, really good for beginners. I know this will be loved because the kid I bought this for has been expressing her interest in sewing and on top of that she is highly creative.

I am aiming for 50% handmade this Christmas. A few people I am buying for are wishing for either kitchen goods like frying pans, and video games, and I don't believe they make those handmade:)

So, its here, can you believe it??? The holidays always come and go so quick, there for the years come and go so quick. Especially as you get older it seems, like when your a kid you count down the days till these things and they take forever!!!





Last night we headed down to see the inflation of the balloons for the NYC Thanksgiving day parade, can we say crowd herding. Yikes. It was chaos, and given the lack of sleep I had the past few days, I was a tad cranky. Well he caught the site from a afar, kinda gave up on waiting on a massive line and hopped in a cab and headed back to a pub we like to go to.
We visited Herald Square, everything is so festive once again. The Macy's window in my opinion is OK this year, nothing special. Its the places on 5Th avenue that really make you "wow".




I ended up taking pictures and joining all the tourists, why not? Its the holidays:)

Of course you can tell that my photo taking skills are quite honestly, crappy. Its that and also my camera isn't one of those fancy ones........................one day!

The Empire State building was decked out in its Turkey colors, looking good.




I am still tired, need more coffee.
Have to paint my nails, gather myself.

We will stick to this post being a Happy Thanksgiving/start of the holidays sort of entry and leave it at that.

After the pardoning of a turkey.

LOOK away if you cant handle turkeys being slaughtered. This is after she pardoned a turkey, she then gave an interview while one of the turkey farm workers carried on killing many more, probably even the one she pardoned. Funny but not. And to think she was almost our VP. Ramble, ramble, ramble and so not aware!

This is for my sister who constantly bothers me about making things. Its not so easy to make things lately, I wake up early I get home late, and I get lazy on the weekends. What can I say. However I was asked to be a guest designer over at Work your Soul, and it did kick my butt in gear to get something together. I think I work better under a bit of pressure and when I do things last minute. All in all though I had fun and I adore Jen and Kim, I feel flattered that they would ask me to put together something for them when I feel that their stuff is always just soooooooooooooo amazing. I had fun with this one, and I used alot of colors and I might just do something else that's "crafty" this weekend, just for you CATHY! hahahaha.

This here picture is of one of my favorite beaches out on the East end of Long Island where I dwell ed for about 7 years. Its called Moores Lane and it is on the Long Island Sound side(for those fellow Long Islanders). I have sat on those rocks, fished off of them, lay ed on them(to get some sun) I remember spending one of the last times with a good friend there fishing shortly before he passed away. That beach was home to many a bon fires ones which included the incident of me stepping on a piece of glass and gaining a giant gash to the bottom of my right foot, which still lives on through a huge mound of scar tissue.
I took this picture on a day after I had moved away, back to where I used to live. I went to visit my very best friend and we took a hike down the paths that led to this beach. There was this white ring in the sky(which you can barely see) it looked so surreal and the colors where beautiful. Oh how I miss it out there, so many memories, so many stories to tell:)

I think its time to pull out the old sewing machine again, I have been looking at some really great books that involve some really different projects, that and all of the Craft Insanity podcasts I have been listening to!

Its going to be a very long two days till the weekend, but I will make it through.

Wheres all the eye candy??

Well, I haven't done a thing! I have about four kits and prizes that I have received in the mail and have yet to even touch them. I did dip into the RVK from October a little but that's pretty much it. I have been in a listening sort of mood, listening to crafty pod casts and hearing other people's stories. It gets me through the commute and I really enjoy them. I have this idea for something though which is rattling around in my head. Its not a on paper sort of project, its more of a website of sorts. I know I already have one, but this one is more geared to just creating anything. I am brainstorming it out, really think about it before I just jump right in. It is alot of work to maintain any sort of blog, look at this blog alone, I can hardly keep up:) Plus I always feel that with every post I should include an image, especially of something I have made, but that so should not be the case. Thinking and writing alone are creative, so take that Cathy(that's my sister and she is always hounding me on when am I gonna make stuff) blah blah blah.

I started this blog out as an interview of indie artists. Each entry had a different inspiring crafter or painter, or jewelery maker, or whatever the case, and that was all I would blog about. If you go back in the archives you can peek around and read some of those. I sort of miss doing that, but now this blog has become my own. Hmmmmmmmmm. I don't know, I will just continue on blogging whether it be with pictures of my newest projects or just rambling.

I will be away from late this afternoon till late Sunday. So f you don't hear from me, well then that's why. Where I'm going, there isn't much Internet, and I need a break anyway.

Taking notes.

Monday! I actually woke up and pulled myself right out of bed today. Usually it takes me like 4 snooze button hitting before I actually get to the point of putting my feet on the ground and heading towards the shower. I did it! Maybe its the whole perspective that I only have 4 days to work this week, or maybe its just because I am in a good mood today.

I downloaded a ton of new music last night, alot of it was inspired by Gossip Girl. They seem to play some good tunes on that show, which I'm pretty surprised by because its the WB. Non the less, I added on another 100 songs. I also downloaded some new Etsy and Nylon podcasts and I threw in a few Craftsanity and various other artsy pod casts. So instead of reading or sleeping on the train, I got to listen to a really great podcast featuring the creator of "Handmade Nation", Faythe Levine who is making a documentary coming out in early 2009 all about the Indie D.I.Y movement. "Handmade Nation" the book also came out not to long ago and it really is a great read and go to book, I highly recommend(they also have a website). I am really looking forward to the film, in the podcast she talked about how they are entering it into Sundance and a few other film festivals, I am sure they will get alot of recognition.

So the train ride went pretty quickly and alright. THEN I got on the subway, the dreaded packed subway. I was listening to my ipod and I pulled it out of my pocket and it fell on the floor, on the crowded subway floor. I thought it was a goner, but it was still running. When I got off the train and herded through the gates and stairs out of the subway someone stepped sooo hard on the back of my sneaker, it flew off and down the stairs while people are trampling over me, stepping all over my shoe. The women that did it just passed me by and said sorry, NO HELP at all. What should i expect anyway, right? BUT still, it was so annoying, I couldn't get the damn thing back on and it kept falling off. Phewwwww. I'm sure that's not exciting news, but it is the story of the beginning of my day!!

This weekend was pretty good. We saw "Zack and Mira" make a porn, very interesting I suppose. It was a funny, cute, bizarre love story of sorts, but not a bad flick at all. We laughed pretty hard in some parts, so I guess that's a good sign. I am always intrigued when I see 70Ty year olds coming in to see such a movie. I mean they see the name of it but yet there they are watching it. Some laughed and some didn't, but I still find it funny that they would go and see this movie.

I have converted over to Facebook. I have been hearing about it and one of my friends was all " come over to Facebook, I am over there now" So I went back over(I had an account from a while back) and I actually liked it. Funny thing was, I had a friend request from someone who I lost touch with two years ago, they kind of dropped me like a sack of potatoes, they really left me wondering what I had done that was so wrong. Well they messaged me with an apology, and i was taken a back, it made my day i have to say. Its always good to find out that it wasn't you that had acted like a fool. That's a plus:)

I got around to cleaning up my art desk, its all organized and neat. Now I just have to sit in the chair and do something. In time!

Oh and one last thing.....................I found, well heard a website(on one of the pod casts) that I wanted to share with you. Its called The Penny Carnival. Its packed full of arts and crafts, you know the deal, INSPIRING stuff. Don't we all need it???

Wednesday how I love you.

Its all a fast down hill roll from here:) Two more days and then bring on the weekend.

Today, I was confronted by alot of very happy people. I think I know why and you may know way that is, but I am pretty much done with that talk on my blog for now. It was an exciting time, but back to regular programming.

While in the park, I came across Johnny Depp......................................or JUST A REALLY great look a like, what a tease! I couldn't really scope him out, like stare at him, or sit next to him, because I just didn't have the guts. But anything is possible in the city of NY. I think my Johnny Depp instincts were pointing me towards no and that he just was a wannabe. Oh well.

I have been so happy to have been able to continue on my Gossip Girl viewing via Itunes, I am now onto the 2ND season. It makes for a short train ride, for that I thank you Itunes and my trusty Ipod:)
Ok I don't know if I have spoken about this lately OR even at all, but I collect smurfs! Every time me and Will go to his comic book shop I pick up one, but now its has expanded to the visiting of EBAY for rare and wonderful vintage smurfs, YIKES. Last night I landed these..........
I just love the smurf holding the mushroom:) Me and my silly collection.

Well I just got back from voting and it ran smoothly here on Long Island, NY. I was in and out in like 5 minutes. There was only one voting machine, but hardly any line. Its now 9am and I can just sit and relax till I have to get the train to work. Screw Starbucks and their free coffee, I have time for free coffee at home:) AND its Starbucks brand. I heard a few people mention how their just gonna say they voted and get the free coffee EVEN though they didn't. Now that's not nice, you know who you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, enough of that. No more voting talk, now its just the waiting game.

It appears alot of people are under the understanding that their vote(The popular vote) doesn't matter and why would you vote if it was that way? Some believe its only the electoral vote that makes it all happen, well that is wrong!

Why the Popular Vote Mattered - And Still Does

If three or four conscientious Republican electors had known before December 18, the day the Electoral College met, that the margin of Al Gore's victory in the popular vote was greater than John F. Kennedy's in 1960 and Richard Nixon's in 1968, would it have made a difference? Would some electors have switched their vote to support Gore, the people's choice for President of the United States?

That's a question that has haunted me for the last six months. To understand why, it's important to remember that during the weeks leading up to November 7, polls indicated that Bush might win a majority of votes nationwide, but not be able to seize enough states to claim an electoral victory. Reports surfaced verifying that Bush planned to vigorously challenge the election results if this occurred. Reversal of Fortune

However, in the early morning hours of November 8, it was candidate Gore who took the lead in the nationwide popular count. This intrigued me. What if Gore won the popular race but couldn't gather enough electoral votes to assume the Presidency? Would he mount a challenge as Bush had planned to do? How would the press cover it? This final question drove my research for the next several weeks, especially after watching live coverage of various network anchors grow oddly sullen when Gore pulled ahead in the popular vote. It was as if their horse had come up lame.

The news of Gore's lead soon became buried in media coverage of the events transpiring in Florida. News organizations stopped updating their popular vote figures around the week before Thanksgiving, artificially freezing Gore's margin of victory at about 300,000 votes. At the time, I had no reason to doubt that these numbers were accurate. Yet I also believed there was a good chance the popular vote could play a role in resolving the disputed election; I wanted to know precisely what the most recent numbers were. So I began to check the Web sites of the election offices of all fifty states and the District of Columbia. If the online totals were unofficial or outdated, I called the state office that handled elections and asked. Perhaps eager to avoid the appearance of impropriety in the wake of Florida, most officials were more than happy to share their numbers with me.

When I began adding those numbers, I discovered the media weren't doing their jobs.

Big States, Big Gore Votes

The two states that would come to affect the popular vote margin most significantly were the two most populous: California and New York. Their effect on the race however went beyond population. California and New York had both gone overwhelmingly for Al Gore on election night. Both states also had a high number of absentee voters; California alone had over 2.7 million ballots sent in by mail, nearly 25% of all votes cast. California kept their voting information updated on a daily basis, so it was easy to track by going to the well-organized site of the California Secretary of State. [http://vote2000.ss.ca.gov/] ] At the same time the media stopped updating their numbers, just before Thanksgiving, California's updates pushed Gore past the 400,000 vote margin of victory -- with more to come.

I had heard that New York would be counting at least 300,000 ballots after Election Day, so I called the New York State Board of Elections in late November to ask how the counting process was going. They weren't going to share specifics with the public at that point, but they did note that votes were still being counted and that the number was probably closer to 400,000 ballots outstanding. When New York finally released their official results on the morning of December 11, it easily pushed Gore over the half-million mark nationwide.

For anyone paying attention, this outcome wouldn't have been hard to predict. New York had already split on election night 60%-35% in favor of Gore. A member of the media who took a moment to check with the state back in mid-November -- or even before Election Day -- could have projected that the state's absentee votes would be a bonanza for the Democratic candidate.

Fuzzy Math Pays Off for Bush

Although it had been obvious for weeks that Gore would easily reach the 500,000 mark, I didn't start circulating my popular vote numbers until late November. I waited until New York put their results up on their Web site on December 12 so I'd have the official sources I needed to back up my claims. Within hours, I began my phone, fax, and e-mail blitz of media outlets, six days before electors would meet to officially confirm the victor of the election.

I sent my research documenting Gore's 540,000 vote popular victory to dozens of newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, the Associated Press, as well as Al Gore's campaign. The last choice might strike some as odd. Why the Gore campaign? Recall that Gore had not yet conceded the election. Both he and Joe Lieberman were under the impression that their popular margin was the out-of-date, less impressive, 300,000-vote figure. I believed that if there was even a slight chance that an inaccurate reporting of the popular vote might cause Gore to underestimate his base of support, it was important that he and his campaign understand that the media had not been keeping up. After all, 540,000 votes was a victory of over 1/2 of one percent.

Although the Philadelphia Inquirer reported independently on December 16 that Al Gore's margin of victory in the popular vote was then around 540,000 votes, the response to my contacts with members of the press were disappointing, as if a willful ignorance was being enforced among writers and editors. Only one paper, the Los Angeles Times, said they'd take a second look at state numbers. But if they did, it didn't show; they were still publishing erroneous figures a week later.

The following exchange of Monday, December 18, when I called the Associated Press's bureau office in Washington to comment on their outdated popular vote figures, was typical:

AP: Sir, we've updated those.
Me: Really?
AP: Yes, we've received several phone calls.
Me: Well, good. So you've accepted the 540,000 vote margin?
AP: No sir, that's incorrect. The margin is indeed 337,000. We checked.
Me: With whom?
AP: The states. Me: I have too. For four weeks now.
AP: [dismissive] Mmm-hmm.
Me: 540,000 is the accurate margin. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported it this weekend.
AP: Yes, we saw that.We're sure it's wrong.
Me: Uh, no, the Inquirer was correct. Trust me.
AP: Mmm-hmmm. Good day sir.

I still wasn't suspecting deliberate suppression of the popular vote numbers. I guessed I was merely dealing with incompetence, not malice. But the next day, December 19, twenty-four hours after electors certified Bush as president, the correct figures appeared in print -- in an Associated Press article. [http://www.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/12/19/election.turnout.ap] I was stunned. Someone at Associated Press must have been aware of the new numbers when I had called the day before. So why is it we only got coverage of Gore's greater margin on December 19, the day after the Electoral College met, when the figures had been available for at least a week?

Web-based activists had made clear their intentions to try to sway Republican electors towards doing the honorable thing and voting for Gore. The media holding on to the news of a much larger margin of victory for Al Gore prevented these electors from having access to facts that might have made a difference. Because of the timing of the updated margin's release, I believe the most logical explanation is that the media deliberately suppressed the true scope of Gore's victory in order that no pressure could be brought to bear upon electors to switch their votes on December 18. Shameful, yes. But not surprising given the anti-Gore bias that permeated the national media throughout the 2000 campaign.

No Lie Too Outrageous

Unfortunately, the collusion between the media and right-wing interests didn't end there. Since December 18, right-wing talk radio and Internet sites have been spreading the idea that Gore's popular vote win is a myth in order to legitimize the illegitimate administration of George W. Bush. The claim is that states such as California stopped counting their votes when the winning candidate was declared, meaning absentees weren't counted, meaning Bush would have won the popular vote since we all "just know" that more Republicans vote by absentee.

This is so outrageously Orwellian that I become angry contemplating the need to address it. A quick check of the California election page noted above will show a rigorous accounting of each and every vote cast in the 2000 election, absentees included. NO state (except for Florida, and that was because of the Supreme Court's decision in Bush v. Gore) stopped counting votes because of who did or didn't win the presidential race in their state -- local races still needed to be decided.

Anyone concerned with the truth must confront and denounce this pernicious right-wing revisionism wherever and whenever it arises.

Epilogue

I've recently completed a second comprehensive check of state elections offices and their vote totals. According to my records, three states -- Ohio, South Carolina, and Maryland -- have amended their totals after official results were first reported. The most dramatic change was in Ohio where I was told by a representative of the Ohio Secretary of State's office that 3,000 extra Gore votes were recently found. Gore's margin in the national popular race has increased as follows:

Gore: 50,999,897

Bush: 50,456,002

This popular victory (not including the thousands of recently recovered legal votes in Florida) stands today at 543,895, a margin, as noted above, greater than Kennedy's in 1960 and Nixon's in 1968.

Don't forget too that nearly 2.5 million ballots were spoiled nationwide. Because we're finding out that a greater percentage of spoiled ballots are likely to occur in poor, heavily Democratic precincts, it is very likely that Gore's actual popular vote victory was over 1 million votes nationwide. If Bush and his operatives had not stolen Florida, the Electoral College would have validated this fact.
