re cap of flea.

So I went over to the Brooklyn Flea on Saturday in Fort Greene, and I have to say, I was disappointed. Well I mean, it was a nice Saturday trip(aside from the scorching heat)

There was a lot to look at and be inspired by, but if you are looking for a great deal, it really wasn't that kind of flea market. I winded up picking up a few good things, one of which I found out is worth $35 dollars, good times and I enjoyed a really yummy fish taco and Mexican Coca-cola.


There was a ton of vintage clothing which reminded me of Mandi and her very sweet shop, and at the flea there was a very big assortment of bikes, non of which I need( I have one sitting out in the back in need of new pedals............just ordered!) Well that was the flea in a nut shell, nothing worth the heat, that is for sure. I did happen to find this cute little guy and I just cannot part with him. Sometimes you come across things that you just would rather keep, case in point that resin owl I sold last week. But I just can't keep them all, we just don't have the space. Well with this little guy I can, because he is pretty small, maybe one day I will part with him:)

However I did happen upon another owl figurine, not so cute but just as fun and he has been added to the shop along with many other new things!!!


He happens to be a chalkware owl made in Italy, and I think he would look good up on any shelf in any color room.

In other news, I still have yet to tackle that wonderful June Studio Calico kit. And to think that the new one is on its way very soon!!! Ahhhhhh! I told myself today that I would do it and then I winded up doing other things, one of which was making this yummy fruit salad.

To me, this is way better then any over priced fruit salad I have been buying in the city during work. I have been craving this stuff non stop. Next time I have to add pineapple and melon, next time! Ok off to ponder that kit:)

The thrifted files #1

Good day!! Its Thursday, its hot as H-E double hockey sticks(like my way of trying to refrain from swearing?) Lucky for me I have the day off because the city is sweltering on these sort of days, would not want to be there today.

Ok, I just left for a brief moment to jump in the pool in my backyard, much, much better:)

I wanted to start sharing with you items that I have thrifted or found at a garage sale. I will call these "The Thrifted files"



How could you not love this colorful soup bowl??? It reminds me of the Partridge Family, very late sixties, psychedelic. This little stoneware soup bowl is by a pottery company that goes by the name Royal Crown Pottery and it is produced in Portugal.
It is just a fun piece to have in your cabinet or to actually use on a cold winters day with perhaps some pea soup in it:)
These are the kind of piece I live for, fun, colorful and it has a purpose.



I just listed this piece today, if it does not sell, I just may have to keep it!

This weekend we are headed on over to the Brooklyn Flea, holy heaven I tell you.





Its gonna be a beautiful day, perfect for hunting out treasures and enjoying some tasty treats. I will be sure to take lots of pictures and post them when I get back.

My weekend was great! It included swimming, the Strawberry festival, some thrifting and a great Father's day with a yummy BBQ. Oh and then it ended this am with some yummy PB & J stuffed french toast made by my dad. Now I am home, just unpacked, settled down for the night.

On Father's day my dad shared with us all of the light work he added on his model train set. His set is amazing, he really puts a lot of time, effort and thought into every detail!

A realization.

Its Fathers day and I am currently sitting in my parents den, waiting for the rest of my family to get here so we can BBQ and celebrate the day!

This weekend I went out to the east end of Long Island to visit some friends and go to the Strawberry Festival(more on that in the next post) Before I headed on out to the east end I packed my bags as I usually do, but this time I had something extra special to pack and deliver. I had a scrap book that I had been working on for Cecilia, my friend's daughter who lost her father last year. She just turned 3 this past December and this would be her first Father's day without him. The book took me awhile to work on because I lose my mojo once in awhile and it takes about a month or so to get it back, plus I found it difficult to put together layouts for someone else, I did not know all the stories behind the pictures aside for a couple that were obvious or ones that I took myself and was there to see.

I have really been out of the scrapping loop, just have not felt the need or desire. Sometimes I wonder, "why do I even bother?" Well after handing that book over to my friend, and watching her and her mother look through it and then just last night watching Cecilia and her grandpa look through it, I remembered. I started out loving this hobby for the creative aspect and then over time while looking through my books, I started to love it because it helped me preserve so many stories, so many memories. The way Cecilia sat on her grandma's lap and in excitement yelled "Daddy, daddy and me!!!" really tugged at my heart strings. I am being so sappy here, but I think I have found a whole new respect for the hobby I fell in love with 3 years ago, the hobby I have made so many friends through and the hobby that helped me piece together memories for a little girl who lost her father. I may not be in the scrap booking spirit these days, but when I am ready to pick up a piece of paper and a picture, I will remember just what it may mean to someone someday when they get that layout in their hands and are able to see and read something about me.

Maybe that June Studio Calico kit sitting on my desk will get me out of this funk:)

So I am here.

So I am here and this is where I will stay. This is where I started out in the blogging world as "ColoredSprinkles", then after 3 years I went on over to Typepad and became "A few of my favorite things". However, after much frustration with Typepad and also a lot of thinking about paying to blog, I have decided to settle back into my original home. I am back, but I am now under a new name(same blog address) I will no longer go by Coloredsprinkles, but by Pattycake(one of my many nicknames) So there is the full story in a nut shell. OH and please excuse the blog for now, its under some construction you could say! I have to say, it feels good to be back on blogger as well as in the blog world again. A lot has been happening, to much to type tonight. One of the bigger things that I have accomplished was finally setting up my Etsy site which features all things vintage. I am so very excited to start placing all of my items I have collected over the months on my little shop entitled Pattycake's Vintage.

I spent a good part of the day loading in some new inventory, so be sure to check it out!
