Pinhole camera anyone?

So if I am not reading on the train to and from work, I am listening to or watching one of many Podcasts that I enjoy.

One of them happens to be the Craft Magazine podcast, which is a video Podcast showing you some great crafty tutorials. They always have the pattern or recipe for download as well, so you don't have to jot it all down while watching. This one really caught my interest and I know alot of you out there hold an interest in photography, so I thought it would be perfect to share.

Also I came across a great band on where else, but on Yo Gabba Gabba:) Jen, you understand this whole great bands on Yo Gabba Gabba, its where its at.

They are called The Postmarks, and I think they are something special:)

Here is another vintage photo from my ever growing collection. I am really moving slowly with scanning these in. I just never find the time. This happens to be a favorite(they all are, but this one is great) I don't know anything about this photo, only that I am its new owner. What I love about it is how the three girls are standing in the front, they are the focus of the picture(I am assuming they are sisters) But if you notice, there are random people standing here and there in the image. The one that really intrigues me is the fellow to the right in the shadows leaning against a tree. I think its a great photo, I just wish I knew the real story behind it.

Some Vintage and craft love.

Thursday, July 23, 2009

So there seems to be a big desire for vintage bikes going around, and how can you not want one?? There is just something about a bike that has been around for quite some time, verses one fresh from the store. Vintage bikes hold so much more charm, the way they were designed, the history behind an old bike, the many roads they may have been ridden on. Last year(last summer to be exact) me and my boyfriend stumbled upon a pink Schwinn sitting outside a clothing box drop right down the block from his house. I of course at the time was driving a super small Volkswagen Rabbit and lived up in CT, so the idea of picking up the bike seemed to create a bit of a predicament. Where was I to put it? and how the hell would I stick it in my wee bitty car at the time?? So I took a picture of it instead and drove away with a frown:( I have been on the lookout again for that perfect vintage bike, there are a couple I have on "watch" over at EBay. I might just take that leap and have one shipped on over to me. But for now, I created this layout for the bike that got away.

On to other Vintage goodness.............................I collect very, very old photos. I usually search them out in Antique stores, Flea markets and sometimes I will get lucky on EBay.

There is something about an old photo, especially one that has lost its owner along the way. Certain ones just jump out at me, a
nd those are the ones I know I just have to have. While away this past week in PA, I winded up picking up quite a few new ones. I have decided that its time to start scanning them in to be used for future projects, and to start sharing them on my blog.

You never know, you might just see an old family member
:) This one happens to be one of my favorites. It is of a 4Th grade class, and it probably dates back to about no later then 1912 or so. There are so many different things going on in this picture that make me smile, one for instance would be the gigantic bow on the girl in the first row all the way to the left which seems to be blocking the boy's face directly behind her.

I have decided to no longer use the original copies for collages, and I soon will be making some sort of altered book to keep them all in while I figure out a way to get a good copy of them done.

My boyfriend who is an avid Zine collector a
nd ex-zine creator, came across one that he figured would be right up my alley. He was right, and I have a copy on its way to me from New Zealand.

Its called Mix Tape Zine, and they also have a pretty cool blog to go along with it.

The zine is all things crafty and I know alot of you would probably enjoy it.

So for all of you out there creating fabric Yo yo's galore, this one is for you....................

I actually came upon this image on my boyfriend's desktop(its his wall paper, he loves her, I don't blame him) I love Zooey, she has quite a style, but look at that skirt, its made of big fabric Yo yo's. I searched the Internet for directions, or a website on this skirt but not a thing. I am sure someone out there will figure it out.

And speaking of Zooey:

Must see this movie, must keep telling myself to see this movie, otherwise next things ya know, it will be out of theatres. Such is how my movie going has gone now a days.

Oh and one more thing, and this pertains to the above said movie. Remember Third Rock from the Sun?? My oh my has he grown up. He also could be Heath Ledgers twin if I do say so myself.

And thats about it!

Well how about an AC DT tryout recap.

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

I just wanted to say that I have seen quite a few of my friends try out for this team, and I will be happy to see someone, anyone of us get onto it.
I am so happy to have made a great group of scrappy, crafty girl friends, you fill that niche in my life:) hehe. I think I had this talk with Vanessa over our Olive Garden lunch, I didn't think I would ever have friends who I can talk about paper designs with, or different layout techniques. I mean I love my friends out here in NY, but they just don't get me sometimes when it comes to the paper things I do. So best of luck to all of you! You really inspire me:)

And here is just my photo roundup of what I sent off to AC.

I had alot of Moda Bella paper from AC(Classic and Flirty). I love the bright colors and especially the hounds tooth patterned paper. I also picked up some Rock star rub ons while in Tenn. They remind me of my childhood back in the eighties. How can you not love cassette tapes and Rubik's cube, oh and ring pops??? Come on!!

A little pink Sleek Moda Bella Hounds tooth, some Back yard Sizzle and a smidgensmidgen of Moda Bella Timeless (yes a smidgen) I mixed in some vintage items, some doilies, gesso and stitching. I had fun doing this one, because I am all about getting messy with paint.

Some Moda Bella butterflies:) (Sleek and Timeless) All decked out with sequin bodies, vintage music sheet background and By the yard white fabric Thickers. Now I just need a place to hang this one.

A "Hello" card made from Textured AC white card stock. Flowers made from Moda bella Bold paper. Some hand stitched stems with leaves, a little picket white fence and a doily cloud:) Now who shall I send this to?

And there you have it, I like how this challenged me to get things done.

My vaca is almost over!

Monday, July 20, 2009

So I have been off for about 2 and a half weeks now, this will all end on Thursday:( Sorta sad about that but at the same time, I am ready to get back into the city and back to work. I think its also because I love my job so much, and I adore the little girl I take care of, I am starting to miss my days with her. With that said, I feel like I have accomplished alot on my time off. This past week me and my mom took a little trip to Lancaster, PA where we shopped alot and did some sight seeing. I actually just finished editing some pictures that I took while there and now its time to post a photo blog post:)

Lots and lot of beautiful farm land. Most of them owned and run without electricity by the Amish and Menonites.

We stayed at the Steam Boat Inn, which looked like one of Fulton's steamboats. Even the inside was decked out sort of like the Titanic.

One of my favorite parts of the trip besides antique shopping, was taking a ride on the Strasburg Rail. The train dates back to 1910 and the railroad back to 1832 I believe. It has a whole lot of history behind it, and the ride takes you right through lots of farm land.

(my mom)

We did a drive through Hershey, mainly to go to this huge antique store. In the past we already did the whole Hershey tour and park thing.

And of course I had fun in one of the many cheesy tourist gift shops...................................

So it was a great trip. I think we must have went to about 10 antique stores in 3 days(maybe more) and I got to add to my ever growing collection of vintage photos(of which I will share with you soon) And on the very last day I got to have lunch with this super sweet and fun girl. We chatted alot about paper, haha, and coffee and all of our favorite girls:) Cant wait till Chicago in September!

I actually have tons of pictures, so if you really want to, go and take a peek over here.

SO I tried.

I actually made a card. My first ever:) I gave it a go. I cut out these very flower looking circles from the Moda Bella AC paper line. I also had fun using some Diamond glaze to give them a bit of depth.

A pretty butterfly collage using some AC paper I've had and hoarded:

Add some vintage paper and some darling thickers. Now I need to find a place to hang this on our wall:)

Be back tomorrow with pictures from my PA trip. Night!

Day 4 and 5 "Beauty"

Yesterday it was pretty cloudy all day. We pretty much stayed in and watched movies. The sun eventually came out, but by then I was just done. One horrible thing happened yesterday.....................I dropped a half a cup of paintbrush water all over my laptop. BUT with quick thinking, and a blow dryer, I think I saved it. Its running, has had no problems, and I am just crossing my fingers.

Today, we took a walk up to the laundromat, I had to do some clothes before I leave tomorrow. Such an exciting day, haha. I will be going to Empire City tomorrow, play a few slots, hopefully I win big:) Then on Monday we are off to PA for a week(me and my mom that is) Should be a laid back sort of vacation. I will be back on the 18Th, probably wont be on the computer that much, which is ok. I have a book I need to finish and a new one to start.

Getting excited with the prospect of a Chicago trip in September to see the gang. I never thought I would see them again so soon, cant wait. So if you guys are reading this.................................................................can Tony come along??

Ok, this leads me to my third layout this week, yay. This has been the most I have done in a long time. With this one, I did alot of experimenting. Did alot of gesso painting on the background, some Modge Podge and some paper doilies. It has alot of texture but you really cant see that in the photos. I also did alot of sewing, and left myself with blisters on my fingers, ouch. Hopefully it wont be to painful to work those slots tomorrow. Oh the things we do for scrapping!

Oh, and before I forget........tomorrow, the 11th is my 2 year blog Anniversary. Time to pull out the cyber cake. Thank you blog, you have allowed me to meet many a very cool people. Hooray!!!!

Day 2 and 3 "Girls just wanna have fun"

Thursday, July 9, 2009

Well days 2 and 3 have been good vacation days. On Tuesday we took a long stroll up to the stores(it was a tad hot out) Picked up some photos, lots from Sisiversary and camping, good times. Had lunch, returned a movie and then just chilled out.

Yesterday we spent most of the day down at the park, me trying to get color, while Will napped under a tree, lol.

Today is gonna be a s
tay indoors sort of day, they said some clouds, but the sky is completely covered in them. I will take advantage of this gloomy day and get things done inside that I have been meaning to complete. Anyway, I have been working on the same dang layout for 2 days(well more like 4 hours when you really do the math) I was in dire need of a paper piercer because I have been manually punching holes in my layouts for some time now with a needle, its killer. I was gonna order one off of online but it wont get here in time, so for now I whipped together one with an Ikea mini pencil, some tape and a heavy duty needle. It works like a charm!!!

I did this layout in honor of some of the fun ladies I met at Sisiversary. To bad I didnt have a picture of all of us!!!

Day one "Joy"

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Being city free is pleasant. I am not missing the whole hustle and bustle of commuting and getting to where I need to be after exiting the subway, but I do kinda miss the little girl I take care of. I am sure when they get back she will be walking, and then I will be in for it. The 4Th of July proved to be a fun one. We went out to my sister's for the day. I traded in my old laptop for a new one, and I settled on a pretty white and black HP, which I love. We sang some Karaoke, had some margaritas, burnt some corn(no, not on purpose)

Skyped a favorite Canadian, and watched some of "My Bloody Valentine" by the way, its super bloody. On Sunday we headed on back to the homestead and that ended our 4Th of 2009.

Monday started my 3 week vacation so yesterday we finally made it to the beach.

After many weeks of rain here in NY, we finally are getting some sunshine, and I mean not a cloud in the sky sort of sunshine. Of course we only lasted an hour and a half because the sun was so strong, but we did it. Finally I am not so Casper white anymore. I am also aiming to make something new everyday on these days off. That is my plan, we will see what happens with that.

But so far I came up with a little something for the OLW # 55 which was the word "Joy". Well I have found a new found joy in vintage photos that aren't mine. While in Greenpoint Brooklyn last month, I came across a great shop with all things vintage. They had a box full of old photos, and I found one of two boys who are on a lake in their tubes, swimming around. Totally screams Summertime, so very nostalgic and of course it brings to mind the word "Joy" Now I am on the lookout for some more vintage photos to make some layouts with, there is just so much you can do with them, so much story exudes from them. I just don't know what it is.

There you have it. Be back later or tomorrow. Have a great day:)

One last post on my Acer. Its all about hair cuts and Sisiversary 2009.

Friday, July 3, 2009

Well what does that mean you say? Well it means that I am selling this computer to my sister and getting a new laptop, not like this is old, but its not so portable for me and my ex boss bought it for me. And well, I don't like her much, so this kinda holds bad vibes for me. Silly.........yes I know, but I am totally crushing on a jade green Dell, and it just be mine oh so soon.

Yesterday was my last day of work until July 23rd. Although I adore my job, its nice to have a break from the daily grind of the commute into the city, the pushing the shoving and the occasional cursing at people(OK its not occasional, its more like often!) I totally need this, I have been constantly on the go without a chance to unpack, always off to work the next day so its nice to finally get things settled and organized.

To celebrate my last day of work yesterday, I decided it was time to give in and get a haircut. Time to surrender to the scissors. I know I have been saying no haircuts, BUT my hair was just so ratty and like weird lengths that just didn't work. I walked into my favorite salon down in the Village, met my stylist and said "I need a haircut, maybe a cute bob" and she said "how about a color too?" (picture this in like a sarcastic tone kinda) I told her I didn't have much time, and plus I was a bit leery of how much it would cost me, but before you knew it, there I was getting a dye job and a great cut. I cannot complain, and I must say that I will never, ever again dye my own hair. She did such a great job.

From there(the hair cut) We were off to see Public Enemies(the hair cut was just in time to see my man Johnny, lol, this is what I told Will my real bf) It was pretty good, a little dragged out, but good. After the movie we headed on down to one of his comic book shops, then Pommes Frites with some good Irish Curry sauce for me. When we finished our french fries we made our way over to the Strand, which always overwhelms me, just so many books. I mean I am all about books, one day I would love to have a library room, but whenever I go in there I am just so confused and lost. Plus if confused and overwhelmed isn't enough, all the dust from the books gets me all sneezy. But, whatever, I got a book I have wanted for pretty cheap or at least cheaper then what they would have sold it for it like Barnes and Nobles. The name of the book is called Indie Publishing and its by Ellen Lupton.

Its a great book for book lovers, for those of you who are intrigued by publishing, all the aspects that go into making a book. In the back there are a few tutorials on different books you can make, I plan on attempting one of two during my vacation.

Oh, so I have like totally not filled you in on Sisiversary 2009. Bad me, yesterday Danielle asked me when would I blog about it?, so here I go, attempting to blog about Sisiversary 2009. Its sort of like watching TV and someone is cooking something really good and the chef is like "oh this smells so good" And you sorta want smell-o-vision so you can like smell it(is this making sense?) What I am trying to say is, there were so many fun moments, so many inside jokes and quotes for the weekend, its just so hard to really bring it all to life in my little old blog post. BUT I do have pictures to share with you. And here we go:

It was surreal to finally meet Jen and Sandy, it really didn't hit me until the moment I spotted them in the Nashville airport. They were just as I expected them to be, super awesome. After that, we met our roommates............................................................
Angie, Heather, Me, Sandy and Jen(the best roomies) Then we took the Stacey Fike and Niki Peterson Collage class(I forgot my camera for this one) Learned lots of good techniques and started a special collage inspired book which I will share someday when I finish it;) After the collage class we went to our Amy Tangerine File folder class which was so much fun. It couldn't have been any better then hanging out with these three chicks. This was before we gave in to sleep deprivation and called it a night. The next day there was an hour drive around in circles in search of a Starbucks(we are feigns I tell ya) Damn GPS didnt really help alot, but we conquered eventually.

And then there was scrapping galore, and of course chit chatting and laughing and all that good stuff that comes with hanging out with very cool people.
Lets not forget feeling up or um down Edward. Naughty scrappers. And we weren't the only ones who violated this poor cardboard Edward. On Sunday we all just hung out together and had a blast. It was great meeting Mandi and Vanessa as well, two equally fun, sweet, ultra creative girls. It made the weekend even better, it was like icing on the cake.

Then we all went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant,
went for a swim, and laughed our asses off all night long. Of course we got a phone call from the front desk, but come on, that just made the last night perfect!! I am stealing this last picture from Mandi. She took it on our last day in Tenn. I will definitely be keeping in touch with these girls from here on out. Oh wait, I forgot about something. When in Tenn. you always have to be on the lookout for people who look like Elvis. Don't ever forgot! It can be a rather scary situation....................... You can see the rest of my pictures here. Also, Jen, Sandy, Danielle, and Mandi all have a bunch of photos on their blogs as well. Ok, bye bye sweet Acer, you have been good to me this past year. Till next time when I am typing to you on my new laptop.

Oh, and I say lets all get Skype and have video chats, for real! Girls!!!!!

And P.S...................Happy 4th, light a sparkler for me:)
